Our trip to Acadiana Aviaries

In August of 2003 Paul and I decided to take a trip to Franklin, Louisiana. The reason of this trip was to deliver some Bobwhite, Gamble Quail, Barbary Chuckar and an Incubator-Hatcher which Garrie Landry purchased from us. Choosing to travel at night to keep the birds cooler, we left London, Arkansas around 11:30pm after getting the birds prepared for transport and loading the truck. Frequently we stopped and checked on the birds to make sure they were traveling alright. Most birds made the trip fine except for some of the larger Bobwhite. Paul and I arrived at Garrie's around 8:30am the next day. There were many plants surrounding his back yard including clumping Bamboo, Palms and what looked like at least 100 hanging plants under a pavillion. I could see the front of his bird building while looking around. From the front view, it did not look like it would have so many birds inside.

Garrie was very friendly and kind. He helped us unload the truck and we found holding cages to put the delivered birds in. He walked us into his main building and I was in awe. The set-up was great with many large walk-in flights of colony breed birds seperated by mutation and hundreds of individual breeding cages. I quickly wondered over to the Javas which I truley admire. He was the only person I knoew of in the USA at the time that had Silver (Opal) Javas so I couldn't wait to see them.(Update-we now have Silver Javas as well).Garrie told us how he aqquired the Silvers and what his goals were on breeding more of them then he showed us all his Button Quail, Dove, Zebra, Chestnut Breasted Mannikins and Society mutations. Of course I had to look at everything so he walked us over to his Gouldian building. Never in my life had I seen so many Colors of the Rainbow in one room! I knew we would not be leaving without at least one pair of Yellowback Goulds. Garrie spent a lot of time showing us around his aviary and we had a lot of fun seeing all the birds. He was right, "He has more birds than I can shake a stick at"...LOL . After jokingly non-successfull attempts of tring to get him to sell me a Silver Java and his pair of Blue Ringnecks he allowed us to take some photos. We came back with a pair of YH-PB-YB Gouldians, 3 Fawn Javas and 2 Hawaiian Javas to add to our flock. They traveled fine and are currently raising beatuiful baby birds.
